The Cowboys secondary has been compromised by injuries. Jourdan Lewis was already lost for the season with a severe foot injury back in October, but to make matters worse Anthony Brown will also miss the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles. While Kelvin Joseph is the next man up he has struggled in his limited opportunities on the field. With the Cowboys gearing up for a playoff run Kevin King might be a player worth bringing in to upgrade the defensive back room.
King was the 33rd overall player taken in the 2017 draft by the Green Bay Packers, meaning he spent two seasons with Mike McCarthy. King has a rare combination of size and speed, measuring in at 6’3 and running a 4.43 at the NFL combine. King’s best season was 2019 where he ended the season with 5 interceptions, 15 pass deflections, and a forced fumble.

While King is extremely talented it is his inability to stay healthy that has derailed his career. King has missed 29 games out of the 80 he was eligible to play in and has suffered from a wide array of injuries such as concussions, hamstring strains, quad strains, shoulder injuries, and hip injuries. Due to this King has reportedly forgone the 2022 season to get his body completely healthy even turning down contract offers earlier in the season to do so. Even with this knowledge a reasonable offer from the Cowboys may sway him to sign. King would have a chance to play on the best defense in football while also being able to work with one of the best medical staffs in the NFL, with a chance to compete for a Super Bowl. It may be an opportunity to good for King to pass up and even if he turns down the offer the Cowboys’ will know they did everything in their power to try and improve a position of need.
