After much speculations it appears the Cowboys’ have decided their preferred plan of action in addressing the absence of Tyron Smith. It has been reported that rookie OL, Tyler Smith, is expected to start week 1 vs. Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Cowboys’ front office has been very vocal about solving the issue at left tackle in house and this move falls directly in line with that train of thought. Smith was an AAC first team player during tenure at Tulsa and while the rookie has all the physical gifts to excel at the position his technique and footwork has led to him struggling in both pass protection and racking up numerous penalties. His elevation to starting tackle also raises questions about what route the Cowboys will go to address the left guard position as Smith was slated to take over as starting guard for much of the offseason. Will update as more information becomes available.
