The Cowboys have a deficiency at linebacker that threatens to prevent their defense from reaching its’ full potential. While the defense is loaded with playmakers such as Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, and Demarcus Lawrence they still lack an elite level traditional linebacker who can man the middle of a defense. Due to this, Anthony Barr would be a perfect addition to the Cowboys’ roster.
Anthony Barr is still one of the better linebackers in football when healthy. At only 30 years old the Davy vet still has a lot in the tank going into year 9. In 11 games last season Barr accounted for 72 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a career high 3 interceptions.

The former 4 time pro bowler is proficient in coverage and can stay on the field in select passing situations but his biggest calling card is his play recognition and ability to play against the run.
While Barr has missed a considerable amount of time these last two seasons due to injury, he appears to be completely healthy at this point and would be able to contribute day one if signed.
The Cowboys finished 16th in rushing defense last year and finished 31st the year before. While adding one player can not completely fix the issues the Cowboys have against the run, his presence would go a long way in improving this area of the defense. Once the Cowboys can consistently stop they will be a much more dangerous defense and truly a Superbowl caliber unit. With the Cowboys needing the veteran presence and talent that Barr provides, and also having ample cap space to make the move, it is up to the front office to decide if they are serious about upgrading their defensive unit.
